빌렘 반 알스트 (Willem van Aelst, 1627-1683)

Willem van Aelst - A Still Life with Tulips and other Flowers in a Vase, 1649-56

 

빌렘 반 알스트는 델프트에서 저명한 치안 판사의 집안에서 태어났으며,

정물화가이며 삼촌인 에버트 판 아엘스트(Evert van Aelst)로부터 그림을 배웠다.

1643년 11월 9일 그는 델프트에 있는 세인트루크 길드의 명인으로 등록했다.

그는 1645년부터 1649년까지 프랑스에서 살다가 1649년 피렌체로 여행을 떠났고,

그곳에서 투스카니의 대 공작 페르디난도 2세의 메디치에서 궁중 화가로 일하면서,

그는 길리엘모 드 올란드로 알려졌다.

이후 그 영향으로 공작은 두 명의 정물화가인 네덜란드인을 더 고용했는데,

마티아스 우도와 오토 마르세우스 반 슈릭이다.
반 알스트가 로마를 방문했을 때,

그는 네덜란드와 플랑드르 예술가들의 모임인,

벤투에겔(Bentvueghels)의 일원이 되었음은 물론이다.

1656년에 그는 암스테르담으로 돌아와 사망할 때까지 정착했다.

그의 제자로는 Rachel Ruysch, Isaac Denies, Maria van Osterwijck,

그리고 Ernst Stuven 등이 있다.
