마르텐 리카에르트 (Maerten Ryckaert, 1587-1631)

마르텐 리카에르트는 한 팔을 가진 화가로 알려진 플랑드르 화가다.
절친한 친구였던 안소니 반 다이크가 그린 그의 초상화를 보면

한쪽 팔이 없음을 확인할 수 있는데

출생할 때부터 결함이 있었는지,

이후에 사고로 한쪽 팔을 잃었는지에 대해서는 확인할 수 없다.

리카에르트 집안은 화가 집안으로

아버지 다비드 리카에르트로부터 그림을 배우기 시작하여,

풍경화가인 토비아스 베르하흐트(Tobias Verhaecht) 밑에서 공부했다.
마르텐은 1607년 앤트워프의 세인트 루크 길드 회원이 되었으며,

1607년부터 1610년 사이에 이탈리아를 여행했고 귀국하여 세인트 루크 길드에 복귀했다.

그의 작품에서 흔히 보이는 폭포와 폐허,

건축물과 바위가 많은 숲 장면이 마치 동양의 신선도를 보는 것처럼

흥미로운데 로마 기반의 플랑드르 조경가인

폴 브릴 (Paul Bril)과 주스 드 몸퍼(Joos de Momper)와 비슷하고 얀 브뤼헬의 작품처럼 광활하다.
