Clara Peeters - A still life of flowers in a roemer with a field mouse and an ear of wheat

 

이탈리아에 아르테미스 젠틸레스(1593-1652)가 있다면 플랑드르에 클라라 피터스가 있다.
클라라 피터스의 출생년도를 대략 1587년부터 1594년까지 왔다 갔다 하기에 정확한 년도는 확인할 수 없다.
따라서 아르테미스 젠틸레스와 거의 같은 시기에 태어났다고 봐진다.

클라라 피터스는 네덜란드 골든에이지 시대 가장 중요한 여성화가로 정물화가다.
그녀의 삶 자체가 명확하지 않지만 대략 1607년부터 1621년 사이에 활발히 활동한 것으로 보인다.
또, 누구로부터 배웠는지도 확실하지 않지만

전문가들은 오시아스 비어트(Osias Beert)의 작품과 흡사하여

그녀가 그의 제자가 아닌가 추측한다.

그녀의 정물화는 당시 꽃을 전문으로 그린

마리아 반 오스테르위크( Maria van Oosterwyck)와 라첼 루이쉬(Rachel Ruysch)와 달리

주로 음식을 포함한 주제에 당시 네덜란드의 전통을 함께 표현하고 있다.
